What’s the point?

March 5, 2009

As I migrate to this new URL, and blog to terms with not being traveling, I’m faced with that great existensialist question: what’s it all for? In those heady days of hitching, hiking, and couchsurfing my world was interesting even when I wasn’t, but now, it’s just me, a corporate job, a soulless but very comfortable apartment, shiny shoes, and little free time. So what am I going to write about? I am a normal person, just like almost everyone else, and I don’t think that I have anything to say that you can’t find anywhere else. In fact most of my ideas come from somewhere else anyway, so if you want to get a sneak preview of what I’m going to think about something just subscribe to the same RSS feeds as me. Maybe that should be my secret?! I’m to unashamedly plagarise the blogosphere for ideas and pass them off as my own… and as long as my sources are obscure enough you’ll have to keep coming back.

I say “you” as if there are many of you, but there are not. Wikipedia tells us that the old-fashioned idea of each of us having 15 minutes of fame in our lifetime has been replaced; now in this blogging world each of us gets to be famous to 15 people. You know who you are, my fifteen followers. Thanks.

So again, what to write? This meta-blogging will ware pretty thin pretty fast, you don’t need to hear someone else whining about how their job, and I’m not going to share my deepest darkest feelings here just yet. Whatever they may be. So I’m left with the banal, everyday thoughts I don’t formulate properly, inadequate summaries of books I’ve half read or conversations I’ve had, poor photos of cool things, my own peculiar brand of whimsy laced with sarcasm, and overuse of a few adjectives as I struggle to describe stuff. Nothing exciting methinks, but c’est the life, and until I do something exciting again that’s all there is. So enjoy…

And on that note, the latest cool thing I’ve found is called freecycling. Check it out. If you want something but don’t want to pay for it, use it. If you want to get rid of something, use it. Same some rubbish. Tonight I got a free lily and we got a writing desk the other day. How sweet is that. Pretty mildly sweet.
